Reference: Red vs. Blue on Wikipedia, North Dakota on the RvB wiki.
History: His history is mapped out pretty well on the Wiki page – but if you have any other questions/concerns/whatever, feel free to tell me!
Canon Point: Following the failed mission to retrieve CT, but before Carolina is implanted with her AI.
World Information: Red vs. Blue. Okay. Uh. Excuse me while I try to make sense of everything it consists of while giving you a nice little mental image to go along with it. This .. might take a while. Bear with me?
So. There's a bit of a connection between RvB and the video game Halo, which basically just consists of the engine used to model the characters, but the series itself is in no way part of the Halo canon. You don't see Master Chief wandering around, ranting about insurrectionists or anything.
So here we are in the future - like way in the future, 2550-something-or-another, we aren't really sure. We're capable of space travel, we have awesome ships and have settled colonies off-world, things are going pretty well for us - except for this whole war thing. (That would be the same Great War that's happening over in the Halo party. Humans against aliens. Isn't it always that way?) While there's a bit of mention in RvB about this awful war, the aliens don't serve much purpose beyond knocking up unassuming sim soldiers (hi Tucker, how ya doin'?) and being plot devices for a couple of episodes at a time. But! So the UNSC (United Nations Space Command) wants to bring an end to this war, right? Of course they do. Because war is bad, m'kay?
This is where Project Freelancer comes from.
Project Freelancer is pretty much the only serious business in RvB. (It takes itself very, very seriously. Or maybe that's just the Director. I'll get to him in a minute.) Leonard Church was the one that started it all; he took it upon himself to gather up the most highly-trained, useful soldiers in the UNSC. Once he got them all rounded up - there ended up being forty-nine of them - he gave them all designations that matched up with US states. (Because we can't just go around calling agents by their first names, right? Of course not. That's just silly.) Now, these are the UNSC's best soldiers - but once they're in the Project, they get their advanced training. They end up getting awesome stuff like armor enhancements, which, depending on what they are, just end up adding to how badass these guys are. They get thrown into all kinds of scenarios, all kinds of situations, just to gauge their reactions and see how they respond .. and that's about it. They're going to be the ones to save the world. Everyone move along.
Now, what are about the soldiers that aren't awesome enough to be in the cool kids club? We call those "simulation soldiers," and .. well. Basically, they get lied to. (Fun, huh?) They get dropped into different outposts, get put on a "team" - red or blue, gasp! - and are told that the other "team" is the enemy. That they need to do anything and everything they can to eliminate them, because it's going to be how they win the war. Now, it shoud be kind of obvious that someone's lying, right? Well .. it should, but .. apparently it isn't. Because it's enough to get these sim soldiers going at each other like they really are going to save the world - even if, most of the time, they spend their days standing around and staring at each other through scopes and plotting terrible things that never happen. Or team-killing. There's a lot of team-killing going on.
Sorry, Church.
Every once in a while, a Freelancer gets to pay one of these outposts a visit. The wee little sim soldiers think this is a totally legit thing that's happening - when in reality, it's just a training scenario for the agent in question. It doesn't really matter what training exercise they go through, once it's finished, the Freelancer returns to base and life goes back to normal with the reds and blues. Because standing around and being lazy and eating Oreos is pretty much the only thing to do when you think you're saving the world by coming up with excuses not to do any work.
Okay, back to Project Freelancer. Its base is on a ship called the Mother of Invention, and it's got pretty much anything you could ever think to need when you're trying to save the galaxy from big, bad aliens. And I do mean anything - housing for the agents themselves, mess hall, training floor and observation deck, command center .. really, you name it, it's probably on that ship. This is where everything happens, the base of operations, and ultimately where everything starts going to shit for everyone involved.
But shhh. Since nobody knows about that yet, we aren't going to talk about it.
ALSO HEY SINCE I'M DOING THIS WHOLE CR AU THING HERE IS ATARAXION'S SETTING. You're welcome.
Personality: Quite a bit can be inferred about North's personality just from the little bit we get from his screentime. First and foremost, he cares deeply about his sister. He tries to do everything in his power to keep her safe and out of trouble, but unfortunately she doesn't listen to him very often. (When he tells her to turn on her motion trackers on a mission, she ignores him outright.) He is also quick to take damage aimed at her, as is seen when he shoves her out of the way of a turret's fire during the same mission. He acts more like an older brother where she's concerned, even though they're twins, wanting to protect her in every way he can. Unfortunately, though it seems she cares deeply for him as well, he very clearly cares about her more - it is also probably safe to assume that his blind trust in her might have held a part in allowing him to be killed by the Meta while she escaped without being hurt.
He is basically South's polar opposite with regards to his personality. Where she is impulsive, he is very logical. He likes being able to plan everything out to the very last detail, but it's been seen that he is also pretty good with acting on the fly when plans don't work exactly how they're supposed to. (When South causes an alarm to go off and the two of them have to fight through wall-to-wall guards, they work together, tossing weapons back and forth between them and acting on each other's strengths in combat to fight their way through until they are rescued.) He is very calm and level-headed, whereas his sister is quite quick to anger. It seems there is very little that can rattle him enough to make him lose his cool, and this is a very helpful trait to have seeing as he's been seen spending a fair amount of time as a sniper. Patience is a virtue that he can't exactly afford to lose.
He is very detail-oriented. This is something he seems to share with Agent Carolina - during the mission briefing in order to obtain the sarcophagus, he is seen with both of his hands on the table, staring intently at the diagrams she's explaining, while everyone else that is accompanying them on the mission is standing back. He likes knowing the ins and outs of everything because it allows him remain on top of the plans as they are laid out.
He is also pretty quiet compared to some of the other Freelancers. Where York is kind of a joker, North is more serious about things. He takes his work very seriously, even when something goes wrong, his main concern is completing the mission without anything else happening. He might be a little more reserved than the others he interacts with, but everyone he's seen talking to he gets along with. He's friendly, very easy to get along with, where his sister is, again, pretty much his exact opposite.
Abilities, Weaknesses, and Power Limitations: The abilities that are not directly linked to his armor enhancement are based on his combat training. He is an excellent shot with a sniper rifle as well as a shotgun, as those are seen as his primary weapons when he isn't engaging in hand-to-hand combat. He is incredibly intelligent, quick to think on his feet for how much he likes to rely on prior planning.
Physically, he is pretty agile - not as much as Carolina, but there is still a level of prowess for how easily he is able to move around when the situation calls for it. He is very fit and it is safe to assume he takes the proper measure to keep himself in top shape.
His enhanced motion tracker allows him to better track enemy movements than with a standard motion tracker - and although he isn't allowed to use it often, his domed energy shield forms a protective bubble around him to prevent any damage from any incoming attacks. And this is where his AI Theta comes into play – the fact that he is outfitted with an AI in the first place allows him to operate his enhancement with more proficiency. Theta can monitor the shield's frequency and allow North to fire his weapon from behind it safely, as well as generally monitor the safety of the agent himself.

Alternate Universe Info
If AU, how is your version different from canon, and how will that come across? SO THIS HERE IS A COMPILATION OF NORTH'S PREVIOUS GAME CR. Grab some popcorn and go to the bathroom while you have a chance.
So. Let's start talking about this CR, shall we? Let me start out by setting the scene.
North found himself on a spaceship called the Tranquility, on the floor of the medbay, naked as the day he was born. Everyone that ended up on that ship started out the same way, was given nothing more than a uniform in their size and a communicator that wouldn't give anything other than static until they took the lift up to the next level of the ship. There were all kinds of people milling around, none of which really knew what the hell was going on – but knowing that much from the get-go would have been too easy, right? Right. Of course.
Nobody knew what had happened to the ship's previous crew, and their only clues were those given to the resident Creepy-Face, Smiley – who made a habit of making posts on the network every so often and being as cryptic as possible, never giving any more information than he saw fit, and that just made everything all the most confusing.
Now, when he first got to the ship, there were several fellow agents from his canon for him to talk to. The most important one is going to end up being Carolina, but I'll elaborate on that in a bit. Wash was there for all of ten seconds –
Maine – or, the Meta as he prefers to be called nowadays – didn't interact with him beyond wanting to know where the other agents were and if they had their AI. But given North's canonpoint at the time, he didn't know anything about the AI at all, and was more than a little reticent to give out their location without their permission because even though Maine has always been a teammate, everything he was saying seemed more than a little sketchy. Nothing happened beyond that.
When South finally appeared, let's just say that North was beyond ecstatic to find his sister. (Because she didn't come in until a couple of months later, and he'd spent that time looking for her.) While there wasn't a whole lot of interaction between them while she was there, enough happened that it's worth noting. Not long after South's entrance, Creepy-Face McGee incited a little event in which if anyone outside of the residential area of the ship came out of a room, they would find themselves in seemingly endless corridor. They had fun with it for a little while, seeing it as a race between the two of them to see which could reach the end first – but once they found out that it wasn't going to end, South got pretty upset. And that .. was when they found the door. A door that inevitably let them into a room with two skeletons and food catering to their individual tastes, but here's the kicker – South went into the room first, of course, and couldn't get out. There's no telling how long she spent banging on the walls and screaming at the top of her lungs to try to get her brother to hear her, but nothing worked. And once North realized that she'd been gone way longer than she should have, he decided to go in after her. A noble idea, except –
When he went through the door, he was in a room of his own. Still with the skeletons, with the food catering to his particular tastes, but no twin sister. He tried getting back through the door, but it was the same thing as with South – no dice. So they were stuck in their own respective little rooms until the door miraculously opened and let them back out into the hallway. After that, they were able to find their way back around the rest of the ship, and they never really did figure out what the fuck was up with that room, but it made North question where the previous crew had gone even more.
Shortly after that, he, South and Carolina decided to have a little party-type thing to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. (It was an excuse for tequila, okay? And space nachos. Don't you question me.) And while mostly he spent that time watching Carolina and his sister play beer pong and actually get along - GASP! - there's more interaction with Carolina that I'll elaborate on when I get to .. everything involving her. (You might want to get a snack while you wait. There's kind of a lot to talk about. Go get some cookies, or something. And while you're at it, bring me some, too?)
Then .. there was that whole nearly-being-brainwashed fiasco. The Tranquility stopped at a colony somewhere along the way, and once it docked, it was pretty immediately obvious that there was something going on here. All the people were walking around like robots, in their own little world and not giving any notice to anything that was going on around them. Basically, if you didn't blend in with the rest of the population well enough, you were apprehended and taken in for brainwashing. (Fun, right? Let me tell you .. no it wasn't.) While he was being held, before the actual HEY-I'M-GONNA-DRILL-A-HOLE-IN-YOUR-HEAD-YON-WON'T-FEEL-A-THING-I-PROMISE thing, he very briefly spoke with Hikaru Sulu, and most of that escalated into wondering where in the world his sister was and if she was okay – to which there was no answer until he was miraculously rescued by – you guessed it – Creepy-Face McGee when he somehow managed to unlock the door to the cell where he was being held and allowed him to escape.
Once he found his sister, they both escaped – but not before nabbing a beep-booping Carolina, who had managed to blend in with everyone else well enough to keep her from being apprehended, and they got the fuck out of there.
Unfortunately, shortly after that, South disappeared. (Because things happen and people have to drop things. No big.) But since North didn't understand just why his sister had gone, he pretty much went on a rampage all through the ship looking for her, asking everyone he'd ever even spoken to if they'd seen her, and no one had. (There's more that goes along with this too, but it's with Carolina, and I swear I'm about to get to that – so are there any of those cookies left? I'm getting kind of hungry sitting here writing all this out.)
Now, we get to the interesting stuff. The Courtship of North and Carolina – or basically, all of their interaction in a nutshell. They've always been on good terms within the project, and when they found themselves in this particular situation, they stuck together. Tried to figure out just why they were on the ship, how they could get off of it, so on and so forth. But once it became apparent that there was no immediate solution, they decided to bunker down and get themselves jobs, try to do some good around the ship. They both took jobs as security officers, both worked the same shift, and it worked out pretty well for a while.
As they continued to get comfortable, they both started realizing that there was more between them than there had been before. Especially once Carolina extended the offer of giving North a haircut – because it had been a while since his last one,of course, and he was getting a little shaggy. That .. ended in some hand-holding and kisses, as well as a search for tea – but more importantly, kisses. (Because those are nice. Everyone likes those. And if they say they don't, they're lying.)
Then, there was that little get-together with the tequila. North and Carolina decided that it would be a perfect idea to take shots together – after the former had already been playing beer pong with his sister – and since it was tequila .. well, here's a little-known fact for you. Carolina and tequila are besties. She has pretty much no inhibitions whatsoever, and she'll tell you exactly what she's thinking without realizing that it might be in her best interest to keep her mouth shut. (Except in this case, keeping her mouth shut would have been a little counter-productive.)
They talked .. and what passed as conversation when Carolina is on her way to getting spectacularly drunk ended up with her crawling over the top of the table between them and settling herself in North's lap. You .. can probably guess where things went from there, unless you really want me to go into vivid detail – but the fact remains that after that, they considered themselves a couple.
Then .. there was this whole business with space sickness. Basically, everyone on the ship was exposed to it. (During the last jump, something had happened with the gel that enveloped all the passengers in their pods while they're in stasis during the jump.) Crew members that had been on the ship the longest were the most affected by it - while those that hadn't been there that long were barely affected at all. Somewhere along the way Creepy-Face McGee announces that there is a cure, and everyone on the ship pretty much scatters to try to get it. Now, North and Carolina have been on this ship since the very beginning, and they're the most deeply affected by it - which is why South is the one to decide to go out and find the cure. (Did I mention this was before she disappeared? No? It was totally before she disappeared. Totally.) South left her brother in bed to go find it, and of course he couldn't let her do that, which means he got his sick ass out of bed and went to try to find his sister, and ended up finding both her and Carolina in something of a predicament.
Here's the thing about this sickness. If you don't find the cure quickly enough? You're totally going to die. Your insides are going to liquefy and you're going to bleed out of your eyes and things are not going to be very pleasant for you. And unfortunately .. that's exactly what happened to North and Carolina.
Yep. They totally died. Curled up together. But thankfully, death on the Tranquility isn't permanent .. so they just came back with the memories of dying. Not exactly the coolest thing ever, but .. what are you going to do?
It was pretty standard after that, except for the fact that once they got through all of that brainwashing and dying bullshit, North wouldn't let Carolina or his sister out of his sight for too long, and once South disappeared .. he pretty much wouldn't let Carolina do much of anything on her own. Though she was there for him, to try to comfort him when he realized that he wasn't going to find her again, it led him to finally asking her if she'd move in with him. Which .. she would have done if the thread had progressed as quickly as I wanted it to before we dropped, but – IT HAPPENED OKAY.
The only other CR worth noting is how much North talked to Wheatley .. and how much of a goober he was. Really, how are you supposed to explain something like breathing to someone that had never had to do it before they had a human body? But he was such a bro .. North was also going to teach him how to protect himself and fight and all that but he never got around to setting up a training schedule like he wanted, which .. sad life, but things happen and then don't happen, as it were.
He didn't get along with Dean Winchester, but .. well, I guess it's kind of surprising that he didn't get along with anyone, really. He just didn't understand why someone not a member of the security team wanted to bother with rounding up his own people to do security detail when it wasn't their job in the first place, but .. whatever, right? And the only person from the Star Trek group that he even interacted with was Sulu, and that's purely because the rest of them were kind of assholes. (What else would you expect from Kirk? That whole cast in general made it difficult for CR, because they would only thread with themselves and not give a good goddamn about the rest of the ship outside of trying to control every little thing that went on.)
Basically, even through all of this CR, his personality remains the same. The only change is that he's closer to Carolina – in that he's close to her at all – and they're going to run away together and have babies and be happy.
Samples
Log Sample: North had a system. Before each mission, there was a certain set of things he went through to make sure he was completely ready for whatever it was the Director had expected of him. He might not have been at the top of the board, but he was useful enough to be chosen to accompany Agent Carolina, so he figured things weren't going too badly for him.
There was, first off, the maintenance on his weapons. Recently he'd come to notice that the scope on his sniper rifle needed to be calibrated, and as he took the weapon apart to inspect it, an eerie sort of calm crept over him as it always did. There was something very .. satisfying about being able to take the time to do this sort of thing, without any interruption. Long fingers worked, correcting things as he went, pausing every once in a while to peer down the scope itself to assure that he was doing it properly. He took immense pride in caring for his weapons - it should have come as no surprise to anyone that this was, as a result, a lengthy process.
When he was finished with that, his shotgun came next. Then there was some general maintenance on his armor. During one of his last training sessions with Agent Maine, he'd somehow managed to damage his visor. Just from peering at it, he could see a handful of tiny cracks along its surface, and it was with no small amount of displeasure that he realized he wouldn't have time to replace it before the mission. Reduced visibility was not an option. Thankfully, there was a spare helmet in his locker. It was one that he used on a very sporadic basis just for the simple fact that it didn't fit as well as the other one, but it would have to do. He couldn't very well tell the Director that he had to sit this one out because his helmet didn't fit right. Well, one less thing to worry about ..
Once his equipment met his own personal standards for optimal efficiency, he gathered up the datapads that Carolina had given him a bit earlier to go over the information regarding his designated task. There was a very small window of opportunity here, it seemed, and it was a passing thought in the back of his mind that he was thankful that York was going to be with them as well. They supposedly had a window of a minute and a half to get into this facility; and though North didn't know much about the security of the place, what kind of locks were on the doors, there was no doubt at all that the other agent would be able to get them inside in about half that time. It said a lot for how much faith he had in his teammates, but if he couldn't trust them, who could he trust?
That was the point, wasn't it?
There were moments spent in utter silence as he went over each bit of information as it scrolled across the screen in front of him. If anyone had come across him like this, they might have thought he'd become catatonic with the way he remained completely still, elbows braced on his knees with the pad in one hand and the other propped up under his chin. Only his eyes seemed to move, and as he soaked up the data, tucked it away in a corner of his mind to recall later when he needed it, he finally thought to himself that he'd done enough preparation. Though, of course, it never hurt to go over things a third or fourth time with Carolina - because above all else, he didn't want to disappoint her. She was the team leader, after all.
It was with a tiny little smile that he picked himself up from where he'd settled himself to read, joints popping slightly from the lack of movement, and there was another pause in which he took the time to stretch himself out. Let his shoulders roll, spine crackling pleasantly in several different places as he straightened. He let out a pleased hum, bent to retrieve the pads. He really hoped Carolina wouldn't mind the fact that he was about to interrupt whatever it was she was doing, but if he knew her as well as he claimed?
She'd be pleased to see him.
Network Sample: [it takes him a moment to figure out how to work the omni-tool, but north is a smart man, and once he gets the thing working for him, he finds himself peering into the video feed curiously. while this particular comm device isn't exactly like the one he'd had back on the tranquility, he's more than used to communicating with one of these things, and it isn't long before he opens his mouth to speak.
anyone watching the feed will notice that there's a small flash of pink and purple behind one shoulder, and before north addresses anyone that might be looking in on this, he whispers over his shoulder - it's okay, theta, you don't have to be scared - before he turns his attention back to the device.] Well, if this isn't like any place I've ever seen before .. has anyone else been accosted by some four-eyed gentlemen of questionable background, or was that just me?
